The I-80 Nebraska region and the Platte River corridor have a rich history of being at the “center of it all” when it comes to transportation across the United States.
The Great Platte River Road was the grand corridor of America's westward expansion. The Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, the California Road, and the Pony Express route all converged in the valley of the Platte, forming the superhighway of its day. The Platte River Valley became the natural route for the first transcontinental railroad and eventually the Lincoln Highway (U.S. Highway 30).
Nebraska's long, rich history as a host to these major transportation corridors laid the foundation for its modern transportation system. Strategically located in the center of a State that’s at the center of the country, the I-80 Nebraska region is truly at the center-of-it-all. Interstate-80, one of the nation’s busiest transportation routes, is the common link that spans over 250 miles throughout this nine county region with a total population of the 235,000 people. Four national highways run north south across the I-80 region, making Central Nebraska an ideal location for companies looking for access in the NAFTA trade corridor.
In addition to excellent Interstate and Highway access, two class 1 railroad systems are present throughout the I-80 Nebraska region. Each of the nine counties is served by either or both the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroads, making the region extremely versatile and attractive to transportation and logistics companies.
Our strategic location coupled with an array of available sites, an adequate supply of affordable-skilled labor, low congestion, and the many benefits of a pro-business state make the I-80 Nebraska region the perfect fit for your next location.
